The physicians and staff at Piedmont Orthopaedic Complex would like to wish our patients health and happiness in the coming year. As many of you are gearing up for the year, you are likely making plans and setting resolutions to ensure this is the best, most productive, and most wonderful year yet. How many hours of sleep do you average each night? Sleep experts recommend between 7 and 9 hours, though Americans average about 6.9 hours. According to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, approximately 70 million people in the U.S. have a sleep problem. Not only does lack of sleep lead to increased risk of heart attack or stroke, fatigue, weight gain, depression and more, but studies show that effects of this sleep loss costs the U.S. economy billions of dollars. Many Americans experience sleep loss due to severe back pain and musculoskeletal pain, including arthritis.
